Bartley Cavanaugh is a hidden gem to me. You would not realize that this course is as expansive as it is nestled between Southbound I-5 and the Sacramento River. There were many wet areas with casual water along the course. This was mainly due to the amount of water needed to keep the course green. The fairways were mostly narrow bordered by rolling hills. If your tee shot strayed, you were penalized with an uneven lay or trees in your line. The greens were quick but fair. It's really easy to roll a putt by leaving a lengthy comebacker.
The clubhouse staff was warm and welcoming.
Due to lack of space, there is not a driving range. There are only 2 lanes to hit into a net. You have to bring your own balls to hit there as well, unless someone left some undesirables behind. The putting green was considerably slower than the actual played greens.
We did stay for lunch after our round. The quality of the food and beverage was as expected in quality. The portion sizes were a bit on the small side for the price. The service was lacking in speed and attention. Our group was on the larger side, broken into three separate checks. The orders that were taken first and last were served first while the second group's food did not come out until close to end of everyone else's meals. Expectations based on advertising and pricing were sadly not met.
I will play the course again, but may make another choice when choosing to eat in the restaurant after.
Would be fine if anyone was pushing pace. Had we not skipped a hole and passed 3 groups it would have been a 6+ hour round. And for $62 on a Monday afternoon it was just beyond unacceptable. Also having 2 different par 3s that play under 100 yards is crazy. If it was $30 it would be a great course. I know the sun sets early but I didn't think the daylight would be an issue with an 1130 tee time.
Prices for the course is not acceptable ($37 to walk, and ~$60 for a cart).
The customer experience at check-in was terrible. I observed an elderly gentlemen spoken rudely from the young gentlemen checking in folks at the front desk . The conversation was very demeaning towards the elderly golfer whom had trouble paying for their tee time because their machine was down. The elderly gentlemen wanted to pay cash, but for some reason the person only took cards. Which I found odd, and took peoples' debit/credit card number. Who ever that person was that ran the desk on 11/21/2023 early morning needs to re-evaluated. Customer service skills is lacking.
During the round I seen a greenskeeper repining holes after our group. Seems like hole location was not changed prior.
Otherwise, fun course but not for the price. There are better golf courses that for roughly the same price, and have exceptional staff members.
One of the best golf course in Sacramento, CA
18 holes 🕳️ course only
no driving range practice here. (Which I definitely recommend them to have)
All level of players can have genuine fun out here.
It’s not crowded at all!
Go out there and have fun 🤩
Awesome golf course. Greens are well kept. Plenty of added challenges like bunkers and ponds. I absolutely love playing here. I always leave with a few less ball than I came with. Totally worth it.
Love playing here very well kept greens and course is very beginner friendly. Although, I would recommend having marshall’s out on the holes. Some groups stall and do not play at the pace of play, which leads to long wait times to tee off every hole and group build ups.
I was very upset and disappointed today with the service at Bartley Cavanaugh when I reserved a tee time for my 13 year old. The front desk guy charges me $19 per person to sit in the cart, which with 2 minors and 1 adult riding in the cart, they added $57 on top of the green fee of $48 which totaled to $105!! I ended up speaking to the clubhouse manager and he too was going to charge me $19 per seat.
I have never paid extra per seat to ride in a golf cart in my life! there's plenty of other nicer courses out there that don't charge me per seat for renting a golf cart! If it wasn't for my kid's upcoming tournament, I would never come here, the service from that clubhouse front desk and manager suck!!!
One of the best public courses in the area.
Be warned though #sundayfunday can be frustrating as hell here. Beverage cart staff asking are you OK mid back swing. 4 balls slower than molasses and people who think because the play golf on the Xbox they are tiger.
Monday through Friday is the safe option and you take your chances on the weekend.
